EFACEC secures €11m contract from Iberdrola for Támega Hydroelectric Complex

Portugal based EFACEC Energia, Máquinas e Equipamentos Eléctricos has secured a €11m contract from Iberdrola to construct and deliver transformers for the Gouvães, Alto Támega and Daivões power plants of the Támega Hydroelectric Complex.

The contract includes manufacture, supply, installation supervision and start-up of the individual transformers and transformer groups that will provide auxiliary services to the three power plants.

The transformers are expected to be commissioned between 2021 and 2023.

EFACEC, headquartered in the municipality of São Mamede de Infesta, has secured the contract in a highly competitive international tender alongside other major companies in the industry.

The company is expected to play a a strategic role in the project on the Támega River.

Iberdola said that the contract is further proof of placing in local Portuguese companies for this major hydroelectric development, which involves hiring over 70 local suppliers and orders valued over €364m.

Overall, Iberdola plans to award over €900m worth contracts construction, equipment, machinery, engineering and environmental protection companies.

The Támega hydroelectric complex is expected to boost the economy of north Portugal by creating over 13500 jobs in Ribeira de Pena, Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Cabeceiras de Basto, Chaves, Boticas, Valpaços and Montalegre.

EFACEC will supply Gouvães underground harnessing power plant with four three-phase power transformers with a capacity of 245MVA and a transformation ratio of 400/15KV, and two transformers with a capacity of 5.6 MVA and ratio of 20/15 KV for auxiliary service.

For Alto Támega Plant, EFACEC will supply two three-phase power transformers with a capacity of 90 MVA and ratio of 400/15 KV, and and two transformers with a capacity of 2.5 MVA and a ratio of 15/0.42 KV for auxiliary services.

Additionally, two three-phase power transformers with a capacity of 65 MVA and a ratio of 400/15 kV, and two transform with a capacity of 2.5 MVA and a ratio of 15/0,42 kV for auxiliary services will be delivered to the Daivões Plant.
